EPIC Thought of The Day – Control the Feet. Control the Presentation.
I remember one time watching a presenter, who had some very important things to say, lose control of his presentation… in his feet! That’s when I wrote down the words, Control the Feet. Control the Presentation
I’d like to expand on that a little more. The ability to stand on a solid, balanced stance and aim the centre of your body at the centre of your audience is the beginning of owning the zone.
It’s the beginning of you and our audience getting on the right terms with each other… you connecting with them… your personalities working well together. It’s the beginning of you building the rapport, the like-ability happening. It all starts with you controlling your feet!
You control your feet and you will control your presentation.
Your balanced stance is all about you standing with your feet comfortably flat on the ground, about shoulder width apart, maybe just under. If you are a woman, you can stand with your feet closer together as it looks established and comfortable… but whether man or woman, the centre of your body is aimed at the centre of your audience.
Using this balanced stance, where your feet are in control, you can ‘on purpose’ shift to the left or to the right… including the audience in your message and its delivery… owning the space.
When you own the space, and you are in control of your feet, the audience will relax, feeling, seeing and sensing that you are in control, that you know what you are doing. They feel safe with you.
Control is such a powerful word!
When you are in control, you like yourself. When you ‘like yourself’ you feel good about yourself and have a healthy self-esteem and person with a healthy self-esteem is going to be a significant presenter. Significant presenters are EPIC Presenters!
That’s my challenge for you toady… own the zone by taking control of your feet!
