#50 Mastery starts with control. (Live Workshop Session Part One)

The foundation principle in Sun Tzu’s Art of War is “The art of war, then, is governed by five constant factors…”  He then goes on to name them.

We are going to continue this exploration of how to become a platform master through interpreting Sun Tzu’s military ‘Five Constant factors’ in the shape of The Governing Laws for Platform Mastery, for the next 3-4 weeks.

But first. I’m really happy to say, this is number 50!  

To celebrate reaching 50 episodes, I’m going to give you two live sessions from the Foundations of Platform Mastery Two Day Workshop.  Session one is titled ‘Platform Presence begins With Control’ and session two is titled, “Being an E.P.I.C. Communicator”.

We are still talking about the eight elements to Platform Presence, which are the ability to engage, persuade impact, and compel an audience using passion, purpose, posture, and projection. These are the ‘non-negotiable, governing laws’ of platform presence’ which leads to platform mastery in business pitching, presenting and speaking in public.

I’ll come back in a few minutes and give you an action thought of the day. So, without any further delay, let’s join the live session. (Note: The podcast has more content than outlined below)


Write this one word down because it will become a central theme of our entire workshop. This one word will separate you from anyone else speaking, if you can own it. Control. This is your biggest asset. Your biggest commodity. If you can get in control of your thought… your ideas… moving the idea from your head to the head of your audience… you win!

Presentation Brand!

When you are speaking, you are creating a brand, which is an identity, what people say about you… it’s an emotional check being written. Your presentation brand is your reputation, it’s what people are saying about you.

So, your presentation brand is in your control. You hold the keys to your reputation. When you stand, and deliver effectively with purpose, with deliberate attention to action, you demonstrate how good you really are… with control. This is your ‘Presentation Brand’. When you are engaging, persuasive, impacting and compelling. When you are passionate, with purpose and the right posture with the right projection… this is ‘you in action’.

Here’s the action point of the day.

Control starts with passion. That’s right. Your belief system. Do you really believe in what you are saying? Do you have complete conviction that what you are saying is truth? Is it your truth?

The next time you address an audience, are you speaking from your truth or is it someone else’s and you’ve just borrowed it? Remember, this is your presentation brand we are talking about here.
